What are seaplanes?
How do they work?
Are they safe?

We have gathered interesting facts about seaplanes, Textron’s Cessna Caravan and Samra Seaplane. You might be surprised to learn that seaplanes have been around for a lot longer and are more common than most people think.

We continuously add to the list here and on social media, so make sure to come back to learn more about the versatility, usefulness, safety, efficiency and convenience seaplanes offer.

The Canadair CL-215 and CL-415 flying boats are some of the world's best amphibious "water-bombers". They are designed for aerial firefighting and can perform other roles such as passenger services, freight transport, and air-sea search and rescue operations. The newer variant CL-415 takes just 11 seconds to scoop up more than 6,100 litres of water from a water source and drop it on a fire, without having to return to base to refill its tanks.

Aircraft equipped with turboprop engines are mostly efficient at a medium altitude and commonly used for short to medium distance flights.

Using the full capacity of its PT6 engine, the Cessna Grand Caravan EX uses reverse to add additional braking capacity resulting in a shorter distance required to land on land or water.

Amphibious seaplanes can land and take-off on both land and water.

The Cessna Grand Caravan EX is dubbed the “world’s ultimate utility vehicle”, but can also cater for luxury interiors.

The Cessna Caravan can be reconfigured within minutes for VIP, medical evacuations or cargo operations.

The maximum take-off weight of the Caravan EX Amphibian is 4,110 kg, including a maximum payload of 1,400 kg enabling us to fit both our guests and their luggage.

No regulatory distinctions are made between flying boats and seaplanes equipped with floats. Based on the appropriate training within a seaplane pilot’s class rating, you can fly both.

In 1919, the Curtiss NC-4 became the first flying boat to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

There is minimum surface noise pollution, thanks to the highly efficient turbine powered aircraft producing 30% less noise than conventional large transport aircraft. Seaplanes only require a short distance for take-off and landing.

Any time the seaplane is operated in salt water, our seaplanes are fully washed to ensure a proper corrosion prevention.

In many places around the world, seaplanes are considered tourist attractions themselves. Many passengers take scenic tours to experience the beauty of the sky and landscape below them.
